Sharing Our Stories

About:

Purpose Statement
"Sharing Our Stories" exists to honor and preserve the voices, experiences, and wisdom of Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) elders and knowledge keepers. By documenting and translating their stories into the Kanien’kéha language, we aim to revitalize cultural knowledge and foster intergenerational healing, education, and connection within Kahnawake and surrounding communities.

Our mission is to create a living archive of oral histories that serves as a culturally grounded teaching tool for future generations. Through collaboration with storytellers, careful translation, and the integration of archival materials, we uplift the lived experiences of residential and Indian day school survivors, warriors, healers, educators, artists, and land stewards—ensuring their stories remain rooted, remembered, and respected.
